Greetings from Princeton! I am writing to welcome you to Forbes College.

Forbes is a wonderful residential college, originally built as a resort hotel. There are many special and unique things about Forbes that convince long-time Forbesians we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. All of Forbes is interconnected, so it is easy to meet other Forbesians (and easy to go to breakfast in your PJs.) We have a great backyard, and we definitely have the best views of any residence on campus. Most importantly, you will find that Forbes has a ‘homey’ atmosphere and a great feeling of community.

You will live in Forbes for your first 2 years at Princeton, along with approximately 470 other freshmen and sophomores. Some of these Forbesians will probably be among your best friends for the rest of your life.

We also have 18 juniors and seniors living in Forbes as Resident College Advisers (RCAs). Your RCA will live down the hall from you, and will help you navigate through your home base at Forbes College, as well as your broader life at Princeton.

There are also 9 graduate students living in Forbes. These Resident Graduate Students (RGSs) come from departments ranging from music to molecular biology, and from anthropology to astrophysics. They were chosen from a long list of applicants, and you will find that Forbes RGSs are friendly and interactive people with a range of interesting experiences. They are eager to get to know you. So don't be shy; seek them out and introduce yourself.

Because Forbes is of the students and for the students, many of our social activities are organized by the students – specifically, by the Forbes College Council (FCC). This group of Forbesians arranges all kinds of fun activities; from evening study breaks, to intramural sports, to trips to New York. They are also responsible for the Forbes swag you will receive this year…. T-shirts, fun Forbes gear, etc. Members of the FCC will greet you as you arrive at Princeton. Their welcome letter (including a video-tour of the college) can be found on the Forbes Website.

Each member of the Forbes College staff has a different role, but we share the common goal of making your experience at Forbes, and at Princeton in general, as great as it can possibly be. Stop by the office to talk to us. If you don't have any questions, just stop by for chocolate.

Soon after you arrive at Princeton, each of you will be assigned to either an AB academic adviser or BSE academic adviser. Your adviser is a member of the teaching faculty at Princeton and a Fellow at Forbes. During orientation, you will meet 1-on-1 with your faculty adviser for advice on course selection and academic planning.

As you can see, Forbes College has an extensive group of people -- from undergraduates to senior professors and deans -- who are here to help you settle in and get the most out of your Princeton experience. All of us look forward to meeting you in September and welcoming you and your family to Forbes. In the meantime, have a wonderful summer!

All best,

Michael Hecht

Head of Forbes College
And Professor of Chemistry
