During the weeks leading up to January 31, students in the Forbes dining hall found boxes of crayons and brown paper bags. These supplies were set out by Dr. Renita Miller, your Director of Studies, to encourage our fine students to decorate the bags with cheerful images or messages. Student designs ranged from tigers and rainbows to motivational phrases in the style of cards you'd pick up from Paper Source. In short, the designs were beautiful and amazing.
All of this creativity led up to the big packing day on January 31. Dr. Miller and several students and Forbes community members--staff and faculty alike--came together for a few hours to pack over 400 bags with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, juice boxes, and healthy snacks. As the sun shone in the windows of the main dining hall, supplies dwindled and the boxes of full lunch bags swelled.
Dr. Miller and her husband drove all the meals to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen on Monday, February 1st, and soon after the lovely lunch bags were in the hands of families who needed them.
This project was part of the Forbes Leadership series, which allows students opportunities to develop their leadership skills and to connect with others with the same goals. If you would like to be involved in future Leadership Series events, stay tuned for updates on spring semester events!
