Dear Class of 2022,
Congratulations and welcome to the Forbes family! The first day of college is nerve-wracking enough, and even more so if you were like we were and Googled everything about what past students had to say. You’ve probably heard that Forbes is the “farthest” residential college, but, what Google didn’t tell you, is how everything else about Forbes makes it the BEST residential college. So, congratulations, both for making it to Princeton, and for making it to Forbes!
To give you a little background, Forbes was once the Princeton Inn, a privately owned hotel. It overlooks a beautiful golf course and stunning graduate college in the distance with a patio for you to enjoy meals on and hammocks hanging in the distance (it is honestly the best place to take sunset pictures). Aside from the gorgeous scenery, you’ll also get to experience a wonderful interior that is entirely connected, meaning you can roam freely in your PJ’s, even when it’s less than 20°F and entirely blanketed in snow outside. You can play foosball, pool, ping-pong, or air hockey (Forbes is the only college with an air hockey table!), all in your most comfortable slippers.
What you will soon learn is that Forbes is most famous for its amazing sense of community. The best thing isn’t that we’re closest to the Wa, or that we are right next to the Dinky, or that we have the most impressive and legendary Sunday Brunch, but rather that we have the most wonderful, tight-knit, community. Forbes is a tiny bit farther than some of the other residential colleges, but that just means that at the end of the day, you get to retreat back to Forbes, you get to come back to a home-away from home, and to your Forbesian family. You will meet so many people just being in Forbes, from the wonderful College Office staff, to the friendly dining hall staff with whom you will become on a first-name basis, to all the amazing students. There is always a mass of lively students around Forbes, especially late at night in the dining hall; that’s an experience you can’t get anywhere else.
We at the Forbes College Council (FCC) work to make the wonderful experience of Forbes even better. The FCC works to enhance student life at Forbes College by planning, promoting, and executing social, multicultural, recreational, and educational events to build community and foster a sense of belonging among all students. From holding trivia nights, to air hockey tournaments, to Chick-fil-A events, we hold weekly study breaks open to all Forbes students. We also organize off-campus trips to Broadway shows, sporting events, hiking trips, and more. And each semester, we throw a huge community-wide event to celebrate life at Forbes! To stay updated on all these events, you can follow us on the FCC on snapchat (@forbescollege), instagram (@forbesscollege), and our Facebook page (@forbesresidentialcollege).
We hope this soothes any nerves and excites you for the upcoming year. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions you might have. We can’t wait to meet you all!
