
Ana Mostafavi graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BS in Chemistry with a Biochemistry track in 2005. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she worked as a research technician for the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Duke University. She then went on to earn a Masters in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2013 in Prof. Jay Troutman’s group, where her research focused on the biosynthetic assembly of a complex sugar found in Bacterodies fragilis. In 2019, she received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Princeton University where she worked on the development of intein based chemical biology tools as a member of Prof. Tom Muir’s group. Before joining the Chemistry Department at Princeton, Dr. Mostafavi was an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Mills College where she continued her research characterizing novel interns. She is excited to be a part of the lecturer corp and plans to focus on methods to make STEM education more equitable for students with diverse backgrounds.
