Hi Forbesians!
My name is Gaoyuan (Barry) Wu, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
I was born and raised in Chengdu, a city in southwest China that is known for its (spicy) cuisine and being the home of pandas. Prior to Princeton, I completed my undergraduate studies in civil engineering in Shanghai. Fascinated by the skyscrapers there and dreaming of designing one of those someday, I decided to go to graduate school to learn more about structures and architecture. At Princeton, part of my research is on structural shape optimization, which seeks elegant geometric form of structure that makes efficient use of material. Besides, I am also interested in developing innovative structures for coastal hazard mitigation. Feel free to reach out to me if you are interested in knowing more about any of these.
When I am not working, I enjoy playing badminton at Dillon Gym and playing soccer with the GradFC. I also like watching soccer games and my favorite team is Real Madrid (Hala Madrid!). Watching movies and listening to music are other activities I equally enjoy, just as much as sports.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know all of you at Forbes this upcoming year!
